Obituary of Samuel White, Sr.

Please share a memory of Samuel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Samuel White, Sr. departed this life and went home to receive his eternal reward on September 18, 2016 after a brief illness. Sam, as he was affectionately known, was born on November 5, 1934 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Curtis and Julia White. At the age of 3, his mother died in childbirth and Samuel went to live in Egg Harbor City with his grandparents, Harkless and Iola Byrd. Sam attended the Egg Harbor City school district and graduated from Egg Harbor City High School in 1952. While growing up in Egg Harbor City, Samuel worked at Shortie’s Feed Store. He met his future wife and soulmate while working at the feed store as she walked by each day going home from school. Samuel and Ramona eventually were joined together in holy matrimony on October 20, 1956. From this union they had one son, Samuel, Jr. Later, they were blessed with an adopted daughter, Debbie Serasio. Although Sam had only two children, he served as father, grandfather and mentor to many more. Sam was a hard worker and always maintained a high level of integrity. He worked at The American Rubber Foam Company and later after they closed, he went to work for Super Tire. Sam later worked for many years at the Continental Can Company, where he became a union representative and was trained at Rutgers University. After the can company closed, Sam went to work for the Xerox Company in Pennsauken, New Jersey. His last employment was at the Crown, Cork and Seal Company (previously Continental Can Company) from where he later retired. Sam was a dedicated and faithful member of First Baptist Church of Richland. He served as a trustee and his opinion and work was a valuable addition to the Trustee Board. His gentle leadership and manner contributed sound direction to the fellowship of the church family. He had a strong faith and love for Jesus Christ. Sam shared the Word and the goodness of the Lord to every one who would listen wherever he went. In his ministry he often distributed religious tracts to those who he knew needed a word from the Lord. Sam took the Great Commission given to us by the Lord in the Book of Matthew seriously. “And Jesus came up and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.’ ” Matthew 28:18-20 Samuel leaves to cherish his memories his devoted wife of 59 years Ramona Jane White, a son Samuel White, Jr. (Monica); daughter Debbie Serasio (Albert); loving grandchildren, Joy Perry (Lynndell); Myra Ross (Dekia); Sammie White (Ashley); Victoria White; Curtis White; Daniel King; Angela King. Great grandchildren Autumn Perry; Timothy Ross; Olivia Ross; and Elliot White; a special nephew William Johnson. Sister Betty Bland; Sisters-in-law Joyce Boyer; Virginia Goodwin; Peggy Ausby (George); Ina Cowherd (William); and Sandra Ashley. Samuel also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will miss his gentle spirit. Sorrowfully Submitted, The Family
