Esau Washington was born to the late Charlie and Mary M. Washington on December 7, 1940 in Ft. Gaines, Georgia. He was one of thirteen children; eight preceded him in passage. His family moved to New Jersey when he was young and eventually settled in West Berlin (East Berlin). Esau graduated from Edgewood Regional High School, Atco, NJ. He enjoyed sports, such as playing basketball. Esau was a hardworking man. While he was a teen and young adult, he worked various jobs until he found his passion, Law Enforcement; beginning with becoming an officer with the Chesilhurst Police Department before he achieved his longstanding position as a Sheriff Officer with the Camden County Sheriff’s Department from which he gracefully retired after serving 30 years of service. He spent many years with his local PBA as a member and President. After retirement, Esau enjoyed many activities such as fishing, watching sports, visiting the casinos, socializing and sharing history with family and enjoying meals and MANY cups of coffee with his friends at the Palace Diner in West Berlin, NJ. Esau is survived by a son, Delacey C. Washington of West Berlin, NJ; a daughter, Essaia (Washington) McLaren of Cary, NC and grandsons, Delacey T. Washington and Xavier P. McLaren. He leaves to celebrate his life, three brothers, Willie, Albert and Louis; two sisters, Rebecca and Mary; his aunts, Morine Langston, Roscel, Bernice and Carrie Brown; one sister-in-law, Marie Washington; a special niece, Patricia Still-Coley; special kin, Raymond Darnell Moragne and a host of family and friends that each held special places in his life including his great grandchildren, nieces, nephews cousins, special friends, George and Susan Clayton.
