Obituary of John McCann

Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
John McCann, son of Walter B. McCann and Martha McCann, nee Davis, was born on December 29, 1948 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the eighth child of thirteen. John, a.k.a. “Bear”, along with his family, relocated to West Atco, NJ in the late 1940’s. His family was one of the first black families to establish their roots in the West Atco neighborhood. He attended the public school system of Winslow Township. “Bear” accepted Christ at an early age. He re-dedicated his life back to Christ in 2014. “Bear’s” passion of being a life guard leaves many memories to his family and friends. But his love was being a motorcycle mechanic, the owner of tow truck and being in his motorcycle club, The Wheels of Soul. He was a great leader of his club from the late 1960’s thru the 1990’s. He represented leadership for his club. He was a strong leader for his brothers and sisters of The Wheels of Soul. He was a very loyal, respected and a outspoken member. John was very strong in his beliefs. “Bear’s” motto was to live life with love and love the life you live. There wasn’t anything that “Bear” wouldn’t do for you as long as you would pick him up. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Martha McCann; three sisters, Louneal, Anna and Rose Marie; one brother, James and sister-in-law, Rita Bethune. He leaves a legacy of five children, his son, John A. McCann of Florida; four daughters, Suzanne McCann of Florida, Frances McCann of Florida, Samantha (Gilbert) of Pennsylvania and Rebecca (Dillard) of Florida. John also leaves to mourn many siblings, Walter (Dorothy), Alvin, Rita Dickerson, David, Harold, Marsha Ewing (Willie), Charmaine and Vanessa Johnson (George Allen) all of New Jersey. He also leaves to mourn ten grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. In addition, he leaves his spirit and memories with The Wheels of Soul and especially his best friend, Raymond “Boogie” Jones.
