Obituary of James Michael Brown

Reverend James M. Brown, 66, of Egg Harbor Township, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 23, 2017. He was born on June 20, 1951,  in Ahoskie, North Carolina to the late Julian and Tullie “Viola” Brown.  

He moved to the area in 1968 and earned his Psychology degree from Stockton University and went on to earn a Master’s in Social Work from Rutgers University and a Masters in Theological Studies from Palmer Seminary.  Reverend Brown started his career with the Camden School District in 1992 as a school social worker and then moved to the Pleasantville School District as a school psychologist where he remained until his retirement in 2015.

Reverend Brown became an ordained minister in 1994 and served as Associate Minister for Second Baptist Church, Atlantic City.  In 1986, Reverend Brown created the South Jersey Theater Ensemble Company and is well known throughout the community for producing, directing and writing many plays and musicals including “Yes, God is Real” and “Count Your Blessings”.  For the past 12 years, Reverend Brown ran the Atlantic City Summer Enrichment Camp that he created to give the boys in the community a place to go during the summer break. 

Reverend Brown is predeceased by his brothers, Bobby J. Brown, Julian W. Brown, and William R. Brown.

Reverend Brown is survived by his wife, Robin; daughter,  Jillian;  son, James M. Brown, Jr.; two sisters, Evelyn V. Britt of Newark, New Jersey and Carolyn B. Tann of Atlantic City, New Jersey; a special aunt, Edith Brooks of Baltimore, Maryland;  nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of close friends and family.
