Obituary of Doreen Addison
On the afternoon of October 24,2019, God called into His eternal care our beloved Doreen Beatrice Addison. Doreen was an amazing woman who touched many hearts and wore many hats; daughter, sister, aunt, friend, and faithful servant of Jesus.
On October 9, 1960, Marie Ransom and the late Richard Williams were blessed with their first child, Doreen Beatrice Addison (nee’ Williams) in Philadelphia, PA. Doreen was educated in the Philadelphia school system and graduated from Simon Gratz High School. After high school she went on to Robert Morris College where she earned a Bachelor’s degree, graduating Summa Cum Laude. During this time she met and married the love of her life, the late Anthony Addison, whom she truly adored.
Doreen was a teacher, a radiologic technologist, a clinical radiologic instructor at Jefferson Washington Township Hospital, and a radiation therapist. Her longest tenured position was at Philadelphia’s Thomas Jefferson University Hospital as a skilled Radiation Oncology Therapist specializing in brachytherapy.
Doreen loved to travel and she was always going somewhere with a suitcase packed and ready. She loved spending time with her brother and sister. She enjoyed life and enjoyed time with her extended family and friends as well. She was an AMAZING woman known for her beautiful smile. She touched our hearts and changed all of our lives.
After avidly seeking a church home, Doreen was led by God to Saint Matthews Baptist Church in Williamstown, NJ under the dynamic leadership of Pastor Raymond M. Gordon where she flourished as a devoted member. Doreen was a faithful servant in the Hospitality Ministry. Her zeal in serving was overwhelming and unprecedented! She was a warm, gregarious soul who served her Ministry with joy! Most of us will remember Doreen fondly for her “Bear Hugs” & her beautifully engaging smile! Doreen was not a fan of “handshakes” instead she chose “HUGS” to convey her immense love for people! Doreen was a participant in the Bible Enhancement Class taught by St. Matthews’ own Sister Arnold. She rarely missed a class as her commitment to sound bible application in & throughout her life was so important to her faith walk. She had great love and admiration for Sister Arnold, always ensuring that she brought her a bottle of water prior to each class, and always thinking of and lifting those she loved. St. Matthews will greatly miss her warm loving nature as well as her devout faithfulness. She was so deeply loved, but God loved more and welcomed her Home!
Doreen leaves to cherish her fond memory her mother Marie Williams, sister Dinene Brown, brother-in-law James, brother Joseph Williams, Sr, sister-in-law Brandy, niece Jo’Keeda, nephew Joseph Jr, and her extended family members Odette Evanson-Defrietas, Linda Lockett Wright, Toni “Cleo” Jones Johnson, Greta Simmons, Daniel Iaccio, Carol Shannon, Michelle Shannon, and a host of other loving family, friends, and colleagues.
