Obituary of Marguerite V Mapp
Please share a memory of Marguerite to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marguerite Valerie Mapp, affectionately known as “Margie,” was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Louise Sheila Mapp and the late Elwood Lee Mapp, on April 12, 1959.
As a child, Marguerite began attending Zion Baptist Church in Philadelphia with her grandmother, Fannie M. Brantley, where she was baptized and continued to serve until her day of sunset.
As a former member of the Track Team, Marguerite graduated from Olney Senior High School and furthered her education by attending Community College of Philadelphia. Margie’s early life experiences started with serving in the U.S. Army-National Guard. Margie was subsequently medically discharged from the Armed Services after being diagnosed with Lupus. She eventually went on to work at-The Prudential Insurance Company of American as a Health Insurance Claims Professional. During her business career, she then redirected her business skills and talents to Commercial Property Management for locations such as, “The Club at Main Street” and “The Club at Locust Grove”.
As a younger woman, Margie had also worked passionately with The Adult Literacy Program, a Zion outreach resource provided on behalf of OIC – Opportunity Industrialization Center, in addition to providing volunteered services to multiple venues with Zion Baptist Church of Philadelphia.
In November of 2019, Marguerite was honored along with several other women, for their dedication and commitment to the church.
We would be remiss not to speak of her love for sharing God’s word to her Nursery and Sunday School “babies and small people”. Marguerite was truly inspiring to all ages as well as to folks from all walks of life.
To know Marguerite, you would have felt her outgoing personality and that radiant smile would warm your heart to no end. One of her more notable ways for sharing The Lord’s word, from her “small people” up to the “grown folks”, would be to communicate “The Word”, in a subtle yet, heartfelt manner. In essence, she was truly a “vessel” in conveying His word.
Marguerite is survived by her mother Louise Mapp, four sisters: Leslie, Sharon, Vanessa (Charlie), Maureen and one brother, Charles, Jr.; Nieces and Nephews: Lakeevya and Damon, Anthony, Neil and Khalil, Christine and Kawana, Charles III and Shelby: A host of Great Nieces and Nephews: in addition to (2) Great- Great Nephews and a Great-Great Niece with a host of loving Cousins and “Special Friends”.
