Sylvia Ann Bailey was born on January 4 th , 1955 to Ralph and Margaret Ann (Wickens) Bailey, who preceded her in death. At a young age her family relocated to West Atco New Jersey from Pittsburgh PA. Sylvia attended Elm Elementary School in Winslow Township NJ. In her teens

She attended Edgewood Regional Senior High where she was involved in many different clubs, and the school choir. She also participated in field hockey, softball, and basketball teams. Sylvia graduated from the class of 1973.

Sylvia talked about being a nurse her whole life and worked hard to get there. She was accepted by Rutgers University in Camden, New Jersey. There she received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse. After graduating in 1978 she landed a job at Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia PA. Sylvia was a strong-willed woman. She applied for a position as a scrub nurse and got the job. She also worked at Jefferson Hospital, and her last place of employment was Griswold Home Health Care in Camden County.

Sylvia was baptized at Greater Calvary Baptist Church in her youth. As an adult she loved to help in the kitchen at GCBC and serve the people with a smile. She also served on the Nurses Board for St. Matthews Missionary Baptist Church in Williamstown NJ. Sylvia was a friendly person. She stayed friends with all her childhood friends and classmates all the way into her adulthood. She also acquired many new friends along her life’s journey. She loved to visit the park to bask in the melodic sounds of jazz music with her family and friends and she enjoyed the sandy beaches and boardwalk of Atlantic City. Sylvia was “Aunt Sylvia” to all her friends’ children even though she never married or had any children of her own. Sylia will be forever loved and greatly missed by all who knew her.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memory Aunt Hattie Bailey-Webb, cousins Shirley Bailey-Smith, Belinda LaFon (AKA Candy), Joan Jordan, Dawn Crawford, Herman Jackson, Renee Carter, Amber Jones, Laura Nevels, Rhonda K. Jones, Tasha Malloy; childhood friends Annie Berry, Gladys Hansley, Rev. Dr. Claire Higgins, Darlene Moore, Hazel Carolina, and a host of family and friends too numerous to name.
