Margaret Ann Howard Taylor was born in Wilson, North Carolina, one of six children. She graduated from Darton High School in 1960, and attended Shaw University in Raleigh, NC. She was named, "Who's Who among Students in Colleges and Universities" in 1963, and graduated in 1961 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Education. While at Shaw University, in 1963, Margaret participated in the sit-ins and went to jail for 3 days with 32 other young ladies for trying to eat in a restaurant.

After graduating college and the lack of opportunity in NC during those times, Margaret landed her first teaching job at a junior high school in Chillicothe, Ohio, where integration was being implemented. After teaching in Ohio for three years, she left and went to Deptford Township High School (Deptford, NJ) in September of 1967. Margaret continued her education at Temple University. There, she received her Master's Degree in Business Education in 1975. She later obtained her Supervisor Certificate from Rowan University. During her 32 years at Deptford Schools, Margaret has served as Department Chair, Advisor to FTA, Girls Bowling Coach, and Peer Mediation Advisor; she participated in the organization of the E.R.A.S.E. Club and the Drill Team. She was named "Teacher of the Year" for 1998. She primarily taught business courses and was a Department Head. Margaret Taylor retired from Deptford Township Schools in 1999.

Margaret has been speaking to students and different groups about her experiences during Black History Month since her retirement. She continues to be an active and an integral part of her community; her church, Grace Temple Baptist Church (Lawnside, NJ); her sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Ine.; and is a Past Matron of Arbor Vitae Chapter #40, Order of the Eastern Stars, Prince Hall Affiliated. Margaret Ann Howard Taylor has two son, Mareus and Edward Jr., and five grandchildren; but has been an additional mother, grandmother, and role model to so many youth.

Margaret Ann Taylor was born September 10, 1942 in Wilson, North Carolina. Margaret received her education at Darden high school . She received her bachelor degree in education from Shaw University. Margaret was inducted into Sigma Gamma Rho sorority and had recently become an active member.

Margaret was an active member of Grace Temple Family, Lawnside New Jersey. She was a member of the senior choir and also taught summer Bible school.

Margaret got her first job & started her career teaching in Ohio and later received an offer to teach at Deptford high school in New Jersey.  This is where she met and married the love of her life, Edward M Taylor Sr. on June 28. This union produced 2 wonderful children. Margaret was a very kind and generous person . She always made sure you got something to eat if you came over to visit and she even had her own 'to go' containers, especially if you were sick or shut in.

Margaret was proceeded in death by her mother, Naomi Howard Davis, sisters  Alma Ruth Davis, Norma Jean Barnes and brothers Shirley Artis Davis & Bobby Connie Davis. Margaret is survived by her sister Lula Mae Howard; sons Edward M. Taylor II (Amy) and Marcus S.Taylor (Kris) and five grandchildren, Marcus Taylor Jr., Drew Taylor, Edward Taylor III, Aleah Taylor and Neve Taylor, may Godson, Wayne Parker Jr. , and a goddaughter Monique Hampton, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
