Obituary of Ernest Atkins, Jr.

God’s earthly assignment for Ernest G. Atkins, Jr. was completed on July 5, 2016 and the Lord saw fit to call him to eternal rest. Ernest was born in Albany, Georgia to Earnest Atkins, Sr. and the late Ann L. Atkins on January 20, 1961. He moved to Atlantic City at age 5. Ernest completed his education in the public schools of Atlantic City and briefly attended Atlantic Community College where he left to work in the casino industry. Ernest was employed at Bally’s Park Place Casino for many years. Most recently he worked doing medical transport for Senior Transportation and TriCare. At the time of his death he was employed by New Jersey Transit Rail Division/Jitney Association. Ernest was a member of Second Baptist Church. Ernest loved his family and was very protective of them. He was a true people person who loved to talk and engage others in conversation. He enjoyed watching movies and sports and was a diehard Eagles fan. He will be remembered for his great personality, his work ethic and his beautiful smile. Ernest was predeceased by his beloved mother, Mrs. Ann L. Atkins; his sister, Marsha D. Atkins; and brothers, Martin S. Atkins and Jeffrey Bernard Atkins. Ernest is survived by his four children, Isaiah Atkins of Pleasantville, Brandon Atkins, Sr. of Mays Landing, and Dontay Atkins and Brianna Atkins, both of Pleasantville; his father, Earnest Atkins, Sr. of Albany, Georgia; his brother, Alfred Hakim Atkins of Atlantic City; his sisters, Andrea Atkins Turner (William) of Egg Harbor Township and Keisha A. Nixon (Shucriox) of East Orange, New Jersey; grandchildren, Tiana, Ariana, Ameliana, Izabella, Brandon, Jr., De’Marcuz, Mariah, Elijah and Nova; his favorite nephew and niece, Atoy Smith, Jr. and Jaila Riddick of East Orange, as well as many other relatives, extended family and friends. Ernest is also survived by his best friend, Lionel Young and his family of Egg Harbor Township.
