Obituary of Bettie Ruth Loftin

Bettie Ruth Blount Loftin was born October 6, 1939, to the late Elder Providence and Bettie Blount in Green County, North Carolina.  She departed her earthly life on the morning of Tuesday, March 20, 2018, at home with her loving family.  Bettie was raised in Ayden, North Carolina.  She attended South Ayden High School.

Bettie moved to Atlantic City from Ayden, while in her early twenties.  “Bet”, as many called her, was great at keeping things in order.  Upon arriving in Atlantic City, she worked for years in the Housekeeping Department at the Golden Nugget Casino.  She became a member of Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City, and went on to raise her eight children, and helped to raise many of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Bettie also worked for the City of Atlantic City for many years.  She later moved to Trenton, New Jersey before returning to Pleasantville where she worked at Kmart.  Bettie had an endless passion for children; she decided to become a full time adopted grandmother to many children while working for the Women’s Childcare Network. 

Her joking personality made her easy to love.  Bettie was the life of the party at family events.  She loved to make her special collard greens or potato salad.  In her free time, Bet could be found at home relaxing with family or friends.  She was smart and good with her hands and would spend time doing arts and crafts or working on some project around the house.  You never knew what to expect when you walked into her home; you could find her babysitting, cleaning, rearranging furniture or fixing a TV.  Bet knew how to stay busy.

Bettie is predeceased by her oldest son, Ronnie B. Blount; her grandson, Rodney L. Blount; her parents, Providence and Bettie Blount; her oldest sister, Lillie M. Williams; her two brothers, Elder Robert Blount, Sr., and Providence Blount, Jr.; a sister-in-law, Rosa Blount, and a brother-in-law, James Woodard.

She leaves to cherish her everlasting memories:  three daughters, Linda D. Loftin and Eulonda M. Loftin Shanks, both of Pleasantville, New Jersey, and Theresa E. Loftin of Atlantic City; four sons, Anthony E. Loftin and Michael R. Loftin, both of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Leland O. Loftin and John S. Loftin, both of Atlantic City; a legacy of twenty five grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren; her four sisters, Silva Blount of Northfield, Jessie Woodard of Galloway, Hazel Thompson of Washington, DC, and Susan Dorn of Atlantic City; a sister-in-law, Yvonne Blount; a brother-in-law, Gene Dorn; and a host of many special nieces and nephews that all loved her so much.  Bettie will be missed by all who knew her.
