Obituary of Pearl Toomer

Pearl Gwendolyn Toomer, was born October 21, 1933 in Northampton, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. She was the third of five children born and raised in the loving and nurturing home

of Allen & Marion Johnson Pointer. She departed this life, Monday April 16, 2018.

While in Northampton, Pearl attended elementary school and continued her education at Camden High School and Lower Camden County Regional High School in Lindenwold, after the family migrated to New Jersey.

While residing in West Atco, NJ, Pearl met and fell in love with Donald David Toomer. They were married on March 7, 1952. Together, they raised four beautiful children. She loved her children and grands.

Pearl was a hard worker with endless energy. She was employed at the Bobby Fisher Sewing Company, as well as the Medford Leas Nursing Home and the Stratford Nursing Home. She eventually opened the P&K Boarding Home in Berlin and attended to the daily needs of the patients who resided there.

Pearl possessed a giving spirit and would help anyone in need. She would feed you if you were hungry and would lend or outright give you money if you had a financial need. She was comical and could often be found outdoors, tinkering with her gadgets. She was adept at sewing and crocheting. She loved playing cards and would travel great distances to play her beloved games of Bingo.

Pearl was predeceased by her parents, Allen & Marion Pointer, her husband; Donald Toomer, her children; babies Donald, Pearl and Anna Toomer, grandsons; Calvin and Don Toomer, siblings; Frank Pointer, Sr and Marion Gardner. She leaves to cherish her memory, four children; William (Lisa) Toomer Sr., Donna (Esau) Mitchell, Gwendolyn (Douglas) Taylor and Don (Henrietta) Toomer, fourteen grandchildren and 30 great grands, a brother; Gerald Pointer, Sr. three sisters- in-law; Ida Mae Pointer, Leola Toomer, Katherine Pointer, a goddaughter; Angela Furlow and a host of other relatives and friends.
