Obituary of Jo-Ann Clarke Smith

Jo-Ann Clarke Smith was born on March 13, 1952 in New York City, NY, to the late Nathaniel and Elizabeth Clarke. Jo-Ann was their first born of their four children. Jo-Ann departed this life on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, to be with her Heavenly Father. Jo-Ann attended the New York City Public School System; graduating from Brandis High School in 1970. During this time, Jo-Ann met Thomas Hadden and to this union, she gave birth to Nathaniel Maurice Hadden, which was her only child. Soon after, she relocated to Chesilhurst, NJ and later married Erick C. Smith. Jo-Ann became a Juvenille Corrections Officer in 1975. Later, she decided to make a career change and attended Atlantic County Vocational and Technical School where she received her degree to become a Licensed Pratical Nurse. Jo-Ann is survived by her son, Nathaniel M. Hadden, Sr. and his wife, Marguerette; two sisters, Natalie and Catherine; one brother, Carlton Sr. and his wife, Margaret; seven grandchildren, Sherise, Nathaniel Jr., Nyheim, Thomas, Yasmine, Michael and Dana; one great grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
