Obituary of Ronald E. Folks, Sr.
Please share a memory of Ronald to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ronald E. Folks Sr. was born December 3rd, 1937 in Mt. Holly, NJ to James and Lillian Folks. He was one of seven children: Joan, Buddy, Sonny, Jimmy, Sissy, and Billy that was raised in Palmyra, NJ. He went through the Palmyra school district and graduated from Palmyra High School, while he was there he ran cross country. Ronnie was always the same: nice, held a conversation about any and all things, lent a helping hand when needed, and met no strangers. He was a friend until the end!
Ronnie worked at an early age on his grand father’s ice truck. It was instilled in him at an early age that, “the bird catches the worm!” He worked at various jobs (1 or 2 at the same time) such as: RCA, Riverton Country Club, Bartending, DeSoto Chemical (15 yrs.) and Campbell Soup (4 yrs) before he had to retire. Even though he had to retire, he couldn’t keep still.
Ronnie skated like he danced: COOL. Any dance that was out at the time he had to learn it: (Bop, slop, cha cha, electric slide, etc.) “Dance is the hidden language of the soul.” He loved listening to “oldies but goodies”, watching mysteries and riding his bike.
Ronnie also enjoyed going to flea markets, yard sales, and Columbus Farmers Market every weekend to look for good finds: bicycles, toys, antiques, carnival glass, pottery etc.
He found a great find in Carol E. DeShields, they were married for 57 years before his departure from this earth on April 7, 2020. Ronnie was so very proud of his three children: Ronnie Jr., Eric, and Joy and their spouses Mechel, Leslie and Shawn Sr. He adored his four grand children: Janae, Jasmin, Shawn Jr. and Shane and great-grand child An’ ial. He was a great provider and his family’s McGiver: he could make something out of nothing. Ronnie enjoyed life! He loved his family and friends and they loved him!
Ronnie fought a good fight and now he is set free! He will live forever in their hearts!!!
