Obituary of Barbara Jean Waite

Waite, Barbara Jean was born on August 18, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Annie B. Waite and Joseph Waite Jr. She was called home to glory on November 3, 2011, after a period of declining health. Barbara was baptized in 1969 at Greater Calvary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend A.R. Kelly. Barbara always had a kind spirit and was raised with so much love from her family that it spilled over into all she encountered. Barbara graduated from Edgewood Regional High School in 1972 and then attended Camden County College. She received a nursing aide certificate in 1976. After the death of her oldest sister Janie Dickerson, she raised her sister's three children, Paris B. Dickerson, Derrick A. Dickerson and Tameeka D. Dickerson. Although Barbara did not have any children, all her nieces and nephews were her children. She was an active supporter/volunteer with the Camden City Public School System for more than 30 years. She was the Camden City District Parent Council's past secretary and taught crochet classes at Camden High School for parents. Barbara was also an avid volunteer with Camden City Police Athletic League and the Grandparents Organization of CEO. Barbara loved to crochet, write and make arts and crafts. These talents allowed her to have her own unique style. Barbara was infamous for sharing her talents through the many gifts and treasures she gave for birthdays, holidays and any occasion. Her nieces and nephews loved to spend summer vacations with her and enjoyed the love she had to give. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Waite Jr. and Annie B. Waite; three sisters, Janie Dickerson (Paris), Willie Waite and Shirley Waite; two brothers, Matthew Waite and Mark Waite. Barbara leaves to cherish her memory, four sisters, Dorothy A. Waite, Edith Epps, Ethel Bey and Victoria L. Dickens (Mitchell); four brothers, Joseph Waite III (Theresa), Earl Waite (Dee Ann), Robert H. Waite Sr. and James E. Waite; one uncle, Freeman Johnson (Stella); one aunt, Helen Waite; dear friends, Edithe Randolph and Loretta Gooden; and a host of nieces, nephews, family members and friends.
