Obituary of Bernice Evans

Bernice "Bonnie" Evans, daughter of the late Leland Evans and Mary Elizabeth Evans, was born in South Bend, IN on July 28, 1940. She was the youngest of five children. On Saturday, November 6, 2021, while residing in Voorhees, New Jersey, Bonnie was called home to be with the Lord after a lengthy battle with blindness and Alzheimer's. In her late teens, Bonnie moved to Chicago, Illinois with her older sister, Veria. She received her high school diploma and later found employment at a local factory. Bonnie returned to live in South Bend, where she birthed her only child, Stephanie. Several years later, Bonnie became legal guardian to two boys, Sam and Terrence. Her children were her pride and joy. She enjoyed attending their sporting events, concerts, and academic ceremonies. Bonnie spent her life working in male-dominated fields. She drove military vehicles for AM General Motors, and produced vinyl siding and roofing materials for Mastic Corporation. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with family, attending senior center activities, doing word search puzzles, playing hand-held electronic games, watching Westerns, and traveling cross-country on road trips. She became a registered Girl Scout in her late 60's and traveled on her first overseas trip to Europe with her granddaughter's Troop. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James and Lawrence; and sister, Veria. She leaves to cherish her memory to her daughter, Stephanie (Gregory); sons, Sam and Terrence; beloved sisters, Mildred and Linda; grandchildren, Malea, Jaden, Terrence, Jr., La'Nieha, Shawann, Tyree, London, Ta'Lea Brooklyn, and Sam, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
