Marilyn Wright-Whittington, the sixth child of Edward U. and Sarah F. Wright, was born in Camden, New Jersey on January 9, 1951. She departed this life on March 4, 2022. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Alveda and sister, Sheila V. Harper. Marilyn was raised in Cinnaminson where she completed her elementary and high school education. In 1974 Marilyn graduated University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. While attending the University of Pennsylvania, she worked part-time at John Wanamaker’s Department Store. After graduating, Marilyn continued working at John Wanamaker’s as a manager in their corporate training program. After leaving John Wanamaker’s, she joined the staff at Philadelphia Saving Fund Society (PSFS), working her way from a management trainee to Branch Manager. Preparing tax returns always intrigued Marilyn. An opportunity came for her to take the H & R Block Income Tax Course. In her mind she was taking it for fun and to gain the knowledge to complete her own income tax return. And as they say, the rest is history. After, 24 years of employment, Marilyn retired from H & R Block in 2020. But not one to remain idle, she joined the staff of Salvation and Social Justice, a non-profit organization in Trenton, New Jersey, bringing her many years of financial experience to the table. Marilyn was united in marriage with Elwood Whittington, of Lawnside, New Jersey on July 20, 1985. With this union, she became the stepmother to Alveda (deceased) and Scott. Marilyn joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church, Woodbury, New Jersey and immediately became very active. She held the offices of Steward, Lay President, Missionary President and Church Treasurer. And when she was not attending to those duties, you could find Marilyn in the kitchen cooking with husband, Elwood. Marilyn leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband, Elwood, her son, Scott Miyoung), two granddaughters, Leah Bryant (Joshua) and Erica Ann Sanders (Austin), three great-grandchildren, Talen Bryant, Ivy Bryant, and Liliana Castro; two brothers, Richard Wright (Eileen) and her twin, Marvin,, three sisters, Barbara Cobb (Robert), Elaine Davis (Robert), Sandra Morris, three sisters-in-law, Dolores Hargrove, Marie Burton and Helen Stove one special daughter, Jo Ann Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
