Obituary of Rita M. Dickerson

Rita M. Dickerson (nee McCann) was born on October 31, 1940 in Philadelphia, PA to Walter B. McCann and Martha Davis. She was the 3rd child born out of 13 children. Rita was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and later relocated to West Atco, NJ with her family. At an early age, she accepted the Lord at Shiloh Baptist church in Philadelphia, PA. and after relocating to West Atco, NJ she attended a church under the leadership of Rev. Williams. As Rita continued her worship and service unto the Lord, She joined and loved Mount Zion Baptist Church, where she worked diligently and was a dedicated member. Later, she moved to First Baptist Church and was instrumental in establishing a food bank where people in need was blessed. Rita began her career at Ancora state hospital and retired from it in 1992. Upon her retirement, she became a foster mother for the state of New Jersey for more than 15 years. Rita was proceeded in death by her son Robert E McCann and siblings: Anna Febo, Louneal, James, RoseMarie, and John McCann. Rita leaves to mourn her memory are her Children: Monica Aviles and Michael Dickerson; Siblings Marsha Ewing (Willy), Charmaine Curtis, Vanessa Johnson (George), Walter McCann (Dorothy), Alvin, David and Harold McCann; 16 Grandchildren, 23 Great Grands and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
