Please share a memory of George to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Martin George W. Sr. was born on February 17, 1944 in Rockingham, NC. He was born the second of four children. He migrated with his mother, sister and two brothers to New Jersey in 1951. He graduated from Edgewood Regional High School in 1963. He was an outstanding wrestler in the 130 pound weight class as well as an honor roll student at Edgewood Regional High School. George was also heavily recruited to Glassboro State for wrestling. After high school, he began working as a plumber's assistant by day and started Camden County Vocational School for plumbing at night. He married Gertrude Fort in 1968 and from that union came three children, George Jr., Geneva and Gina. He was a plumber for over 45 years, a master plumber and union member of local union 322. He also had a passion for deep sea fishing and horses. Those who knew George loved him very much. George had a laid back personality but was always willing to offer a helping hand. He loved just sitting outside under the sun with his favorite drink "Budweiser" with his friends and family just hanging out and enjoying good company. George Martin was a resident of Winslow Township for over 59 years. He will be truly missed. George departed this life on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 and leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Noliah Martin; his wife, Gertrude Martin; sister, Pauline Smith; brothers, David and Robert Martin; his cousin, James, whom he was raised and grew up with; sons, Author and George Martin; daughters, Venus, Geneva and Gina; grandsons, Christopher Boyer, Keenan and Author Johnson, Timi Lewis, Shaquille Robinson, Zaire Graves; granddaughters, Jazmyne Graves, Euvona Talley, Cien Martin, Asia Pitt, Zania Tazewell and great grandson, Ni'rel Gambell; godson, Ivan Murray and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
