How do you even begin to sum up the life of a woman, pioneering along this path with such a force and a that could be heard and felt by everyone fortunate enough to be in her presence. Life was lived on her terms and by signing this contract, you were welcomed with open arms, apple cobbler and an endless abundance of storytelling that easily turned 20 mins into 20 years. If you had an ear to lend, she had a voice that would fill a church while simultaneously soothing your soul. And when it was time for her to get busy in the kitchen, she’d turn on the music, bring out the KitchenAid and still find time to do the “two-step” all the while never realizing how much of an impact she was making.
A true legend among legends and the best mother Vivian and Kenzie could ever ask her. Her endless devotion would often come at the expense of early Saturday morning wake-up calls or late nights making sure things were right while they slept. Uncle Hilton was more than aware of the woman he joined in holy matrimony on October 14th, 1988 and so began a marriage filled with ups and downs, highs and lows that stood the test of time and made each other love and care for one another time and time again. My memories a surely different from anyone else’s and when the world feels cold and alone, the memories made with Aunt Nece, on the ground and in the air, on the east coast and the west will fill my heart with such warmth that moments of sadness and tears will be overshadowed by laughter and the honor of knowing that I was one of the lucky ones who can’t thank her enough for always staying true to the person she was meant to be. Words can’t express my pain but the joy you’ve brought my mom in heaven means more to me than any pain I will ever feel. I love you and look forward to seeing you again.
