Obituary of Valerie Jean Collins
Please share a memory of Valerie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
On December 10, 2023 at 11:30 AM, Valerie Jean departed this life and went home to live with God. Valerie was born on July 19, 1958, in Riverside, New Jersey at Zurbrugg Memorial Hospital, the fourth child of the late Charles A. Collins, Sr. and Frances I. Collins.
Known to everyone as Val, she received her early childhood education at the Rush Elementary School, the Cinnaminson Middle School and graduated from Cinnaminson High School. Val attended Sunday School and Church every Sunday at Saint Paul Baptist Church, where she accepted the Lord and was baptized by the late Dr. Alvin A. Jackson. Then off to college at Monmouth University, where she received a Basketball Scholarship. Val was a stand out in Basketball, receiving many honors and Basketball awards.
In 1994, Val was diagnosed with Lupus. Doctors told Val she would not survive or ever work again; but Val had faith, she beat the odds and became a certified accountant, purchased a home and learned to handle money and finances better than any of us. She became a dedicated member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Palmyra, New Jersey, under Rev. Guy Campbell, joining the Choir and Trustee Board.
This time, God had other plans for Val. Plans to take Valerie home to Heaven. Val was a kind soul and a brave soldier in this army of children. Val was predeceased by her father, Charles Collins, Sr., and three sisters Denise Collins-Gross, Cynthia Collins Watson and Cheryl Collins-Bolden.
Left to grieve, her mother Frances I.
