Obituary of Janice G. Walker-White

Please share a memory of Janice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janice Graham Walker-White passed peacefully from this life on February 3, 2024 at the Brandywine Senior Living Center in Voorhees, NJ where she resided for nearly 2 years. Born in Philadelphia, PA to Sarah Graham Stewart, Janice was educated in the Philadelphia public school system and graduated from South Philadelphia High School for Girls in 1955. Janice continued her education and attended the Franklin School of Arts and Science where she received certification in X-ray Technology and Electrocardiogram in 1957. Upon graduation, Janice joined Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital’s Department of Physiology and Biophysics as a research technician. Her knowledge and skills were recognized by the administration and she was soon asked to train newly hired technicians as well as graduate students. Continuing her studies was a priority and Janice enrolled in Antioch University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in education. After 24 years of service, Janice retired from Hahnemann and pursued a career in clinical trial development and coordination. She worked for many years at Radiant Research where she served as a clinical trial coordinator. Ironically her research focused on a drug to treat Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia, a disease that she would be diagnosed with years later. Janice was an active member of St. Augustine Episcopal Church in Camden, NJ. Upon its closing, she became a devoted member of St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church in Cherry Hill, NJ where she enjoyed not only the service but the fellowship. After retiring, Janice became more active in her community. As a member of the Cherry Hill Super Seniors, Janice put her administrative skills to good use and was soon elected President. She was the first African American to serve in this capacity. Under her 4-year tenure the organization increased its membership and expanded its diversity. Some of the most successful activities were their fun trips to Atlantic City and their holiday celebrations. When she wasn’t running things, she and her best friend, Jackie Keene, enjoyed bus trips to Atlantic City. She would never tell anyone what she won or lost but always said, “I have enough to play again”. Janice was active in another social organization known as The Suburbanites, supported her local chapter of the NAACP and many other causes. Janice was affectionately known as Jan, Jan-Jan, AJ, Aunt Jan and most notably, “Sugah”. She will always be remembered for her bright smile, her faith and declaration that "God is Good!", and her feisty attitude. Even at the age of 87 when she said "No," she meant no! Preceding her in death were her mother, Sarah Graham Stewart and the two great loves of her life, her first husband George A. Walker and her second husband Stanley White, Sr. She also had a German Shepard she adored called Sid. Janice will be greatly missed by her children, Marlene Moore, Stanley White, Jr., Debby Beasley (David), Sheila Price (Thomas), Leslie Gaines (George); grandchildren, Mylan Beasley (Latesha), Dana Franklin (Kai), Lamar Beasley, and George, Grant and Garrett Gaines. Great grandchildren Kai Franklin and Myla Grace Beasley. She is survived by her only sister, Agnes Rucker Stridiron, niece, Gina Rucker Ray, nephew, Anthony (Tony) Rucker (Tina), great-nephews Anthony David Vail and Lamar Ray. Special cousins, Fernie, Kara and Theodore Bythwood, Janice’s doting goddaughter, Terri Keene Benson and a host of cousins and friends.
