Obituary of Paul Bruce Mitchell, Sr.
Paul Bruce Mitchell, Sr. was born in Magnolia, New Jersey on March 3rd, 1936 to the late Madge and William Mitchell. He lived eighty-eight years full of laughter, love, hard work and family before obeying his wife and going home to be with her on the early morning of August 9th, 2024.
Paul was educated in the Magnolia Public School and Haddon Heights High School where he ran track and played football. Out of high school, he joined the United States Army for two years. He worked for Owens-Corning Fiberglas and the Lock Shop, both located in Barrington, NJ. He was also an active member of the Lawnside community serving on the Lawnside School District Board of Education member and the Borough Zoning Board. He was a life-long member of Mt. Pisgah AME Church, Lawnside. Paul participated in the Men’s choir until he could no longer physically attend church and was also a trustee there for many years.
Upon returning home from the army, Paul met the love of his life, his wife of 63 years Harriet Ann. They married on December 15th, 1956 and had three children; Paula Ann, Betty Jean and Paul Bruce, Jr. As much as he enjoyed being a father, Paul thoroughly enjoyed being a grandfather to eight and a great-grandfather to seven (his favorites).
Paul was an avid fan of Philadelphia Eagles, especially when they finally won the Super Bowl! “Poppy” loved answering questions on Jeopardy and catching up on movies and shows on Netflix. After the loss of his wife, he enjoyed having Sunday dinners with his family and coming together for birthdays.
Paul is predeceased by his wife Harriet Ann, brothers Albert and John, sister Jean, brother in law Rosezell, sister-in-law Beatrice and two beloved son-in-laws Frank Patterson and Irvin Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memories his sister, Edna and two sister-in-laws Joan Mitchell and Jean Jones; children Paula Davis; Betty Mitchell-Patterson; Dr. Paul B Mitchell,Jr (Terrie); special family friends Michael Pitts and Sharon Cartwright and godson Anthony Worlds. He will be sorrowfully missed by his grandchildren Tiffany (Tony), Antoinette (Charles), Landrus Jr, Chantelle, Frankie, Justin, Jarid, Irvin Kyle, and Kristina (Steve); and seven great-grandchildren, Tre, Cinco, Cianna, Tyla, Somalia “Mali”, Kendrick and one of the way. Paul also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to enjoy his memory.
