Clarence M. Johnson, affectionally called “Bubsy”, was born on January 7, 1939 in Atlantic City, NJ to Mary Odessa and John Alexander Johnson.

Clarence attended the Atlantic City public school system graduating with the Class of 1959 from Atlantic City High School. While growing up and until his death, he enjoyed browsing car books, collecting car figures and riding in a fancy cars especially those of his brothers (John Jr., Arnold & Cecil). He liked wearing hats and loved to dress up. He called himself a “ladies man”. He would often summon his niece, Johnell to cut his hair to ensure he was looking good in the nursing home. Although he never obtained his drivers license, he could fix any car, watch, electronic or any other obscure item. After graduation, he was drafted by the Army but not able to attend due to medical concerns.
Thereafter, Clarence worked at his father’s trucking business, collecting copper, metal and trash at the local businesses.  He later worked for the City of Atlantic City – Public Works Department.

Clarence was a long time member of Allen Chapel AME church in Atlantic City and continued worshiping at the local churches throughout his stay at various nursing homes.  He was a loving people person and could hold conversations with anyone.  He was known for telling Popeye jokes, watching Westerns and sharing fantastical stories that were a mix of fact and fiction. Additionally, Clarence was adored for his gadget and jewelry making. He would joyfully share these gifts with anyone who crossed his path.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents Mary Odessa and John Alexander Johnson, his sisters Celestine Walker and Frances King, his brothers John Johnson Jr., Arnold Johnson and Cecil Johnson. A special friend, Carrie Randolph.

Clarences leaves not to mourn, but to cherish fond memories, his sisters Esther Steward of Scotch Plains NJ, Marie Lawrence of Sicklerville NJ, and another sister Blanche Mackey of Las Vegas NV. Additionally, he leaves behind his nieces & nephews: Donna King, Laverne Moore, Johnell Lawrence, Jerry King, Troy Dorn, Tyrone Johnson, John Johnson III and a host of other relatives in Boston, The Bahamas, Barbados as well as other family and friends.

Clarence maintained a strong belief in God who we are certain welcomed him by saying “well done thy good and faithful servant”.
