Obituary of David S Williams

December 20, 1937 was a special day for Ruth and Theodore Williams. On this day their son, David S. Williams came into the world. Ruth and Theodore raised David and his nine siblings in Trenton, New Jersey. David (affectionately known as "Dad") grew up to be a well- rounded young man. During his junior high and high school years, he was an honor student and played varsity sports. When he wasn't working in his father's store he worked as a crossing guard. In 1954, at the age of 17, "Dad" graduated from Trenton High School and enlisted in the United States Navy. After a 20 year Naval career, he retired from active duty 1974 and embarked on a new chapter of government service performing in various capacities as a civilian. In that same year, he married his longtime sweetheart, Angel Lynch. His civilian service included logistics and supply chain management at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard and McGuire Air Force Base in Burlington County, New Jersey. After 10 years with the Social Security Administration in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he retired on January 31, 2013. During his career, "Dad" received several awards, but his greatest reward was his family. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Angel Lynch-Williams, his children-davits (his first baby), Angel (he used to say ("I love the way she cleans"), Larry (his favorite "handyman"), David (his baby boy), his grandchildren Chancey ( his "right hand man"), Samaya (whom he affectionately called "Face"), his brother, Robert (and his wife, Helen), his sister, Alice, daughter-in-laws, Melissa and Denise and many other nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and extended family. With "Dad" it was always family first and everyone who knew him would agree! "Dad" had a great personality. He was quick with his wit and generous to his family and friends. He was a person of distinction. He was a teacher, lover, friend and mentor. The home life he built in Laurel Springs, New Jersey is a testament to his overflowing love. For family and friends it was a place of comfort, safety, laughter and joy. On any given day, you would find "Dad" dazzling his palate with some of the finest cuisine, watching the news, the Travel Channel, Animal Planet, CSI or Law and Order. He also loved Jazz and gospel, or "spirituals" as he called them. It was impossible to have known "Dad" without learning something from him. He traveled the world two times over and never missed the opportunity to watch a travel show - especially one that showed culture and cuisine. He was fascinated about the lives people lived and had a n appetite for learning about others. He was extremely knowledgeable and wise, and we loved talking to him. No words can express how much "Dad" will be missed. We will always love him. "Dad" we will look for you in the sky, where we know your love will continue as you smile on us from above.
