Obituary of Jacqueline Taylor
Please share a memory of Jacqueline to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jackie "Mama T" was born to the late Robert and Hattie Peed on September 5, 1939 in Philadelphia, PA. Jackie attended school in the Philadelphia school system and also pursued a path in obtaining her Barber's License. She married the late James E. Taylor Jr. "Poppa T" in 1959 and relocated from Philadelphia, PA to Chesilhurst, NJ in 1965.
Jackie would be considered renaissance, a jack of all trades and master of none. She was involved in the Political system of Chesilhurst, creating events for the teens of the community such as dances and always provided orange aid drinks during Halloween. She loved to cut hair and worked at Stan the Man barber shop in North Philadelphia and also received a trophy in a Hair Show. She had a knack for cooking soups and cakes. She made soups for Mrs. Bailey's kitchenette on the White Horse Pike in Chesilhurst. When going to church at Grant A.M.E.; Mt. Zion of West Atco, NJ; First Baptist of Chesilhurst or Bethany Baptist of Lindenwold, NJ, you can count on her singing in the choir or dancing on the praise team. She loved to speak, talk to strangers, help those who were in need and would give you the last of what she had. This is a gift of the Holy Spirit called Helps (1 Corinthians 12:28). Her spirit will always be remembered in love and laughter. Her sense of humor was inherited from the Holy Spirit and passed on to her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Stories of the man with the Red Eyes, practical jokes of scaring you or nick names such as puff jaws or Gal. She always would be ready to fight for her loved ones and then put her arms around you whether you were right or wrong. To know her was always a lesson in life. When you say to her, "I love You' her response was, "hmmm" or "I love me too!"
Jackie was preceded in death by one sister, Loretta Gail Lassiter and one brother, Robert "Peanut" Peed, Jr.
She is survived by three children, Robert Kevin Taylor of Sicklerville, NJ, Steven Taylor (U.S. Navy) and Marcia H. Taylor Covington of Blackwood, NJ; one son-in-law, Edwin Covington of Blackwood, NJ; two daughters-in-law, Charlene Taylor of Sicklerville and Betty Taylor (U.S. Navy). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; one sister, Barbara Robinson and Carey Robinson, both of West Atco; her special friends, Yvonne, Michele, Grace and Jimmy; her sister-in-law, Mary Tillman of Chesilhurst; cousins that were her brothers and sisters of her generation; other cousins, community and friends.
God saw fit to call her Home and after her last breath a smile was on her face. You will be missed but never forgotten.
