Obituary of Charles Gregory Vaughns
Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Gregory Vaughns, affectionately known as “Flappy” to most, and to some, “Chucky” was born to the late Charles James Vaughns and Cora Rosita Vaughns (nee Johnson), in Camden, New Jersey on December 9, 1952.
"Flappy" was educated in the Camden School System and held various roles in Support Services which included Cooper Hospital and Camden County. He was a long time member of Bethel AME, and, on many occasions, enjoyed helping to prepare food while listening to the service.
Chucky was a compassionate and heartfelt person who was full of life. Through the tears, he was a devoted caregiver tending to both his grandmother and mother until their passing. “Pop pop” loved and was loved by his grandchildren and never let a visit go by without offering a word of advice. He was passionate about life and enjoyed laughing and having a good time with family and friends. “Flappy” was a man of many gifts: the gift of gab, a great listener, and a great cook. In addition to being an excellent cook, he could tear up a good meal too. Cutting hair was one of his hobbies and they always said “If your hair was short and nappy, Mr. Flappy will make you happy”. He was a lover of music and enjoyed hearing his cousin San sing “Sunrise”. Chucky had a great voice himself and depending on the day, you just might hear him cut a tune. He enjoyed his days hanging in Stanley Park with the fellas. Afterwards, he’d walk to Broadway to hang out there and you would never miss him at Centerville Unity Day until his health failed. Some of his greatest days were when he could make others laugh.
Chucky was predeceased by his parents Charles James Vaughns and Cora Rosita Vaughns (nee Johnson). He lived to be 63 years old, and will be greatly missed.
"Flappy" leaves to cherish his memory, his Children: Louis McBride, Sr., Tiombe Smith McRae (Robert), Tameka Robinson, Renee Vaughns, Charlean Vaughns, Kelly Vaughns.
