Obituary of Mae Ola Arrington

Mae Ola Arrington, 85, of Absecon,  departed this life on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Assisted Living at Woodview Estates, Mays Landing.  She was born on June 30, 1931, in Knoxville, Tennessee to the late Wilena Brown.  

A resident of this area since 1970, she had been employed by the Pleasantville Board of Education as a permanent substitute teacher in the Pleasantville school system for over thirty years.  Additionally, for over twenty-five years, she worked at Sears.  Mrs. Arrington was Pleasantville's first African American City Clerk. 

Mrs. Arrington was a graduate of Knoxville College, where she majored in English and minored in French.  A member of Delta Sigma Theta since her college years, she was still an active soror with the Atlantic City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta. 

She was predeceased by her husband of thirty five years, Hilyer Maurice Arrington (retired Air Force); and her mother, Wilena Davis.

Surviving are her daughters, Martina J. Villarson of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey and Maurica K. Arrington of Absecon, New Jersey;  her grandson, Marcus E. Hughes of Jersey City, New Jersey; a son-in-law, Gary P. Villarson of Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey; and other relatives and friends.
