Obituary of Vincent Foster
Vince was educated in the Camden School System. After graduation he joined the U S Marine Corps with active service from August 1963 to August 1967 during which time he served in overseas bases. He was honorably discharged in 1967. Upon returning to the United States he joined the City of Camden Police Department where he served for twenty-six years, retiring in 1993. Retirement did not sit well with Vince and in February 1996, he returned to work as a Court Security Officer at the United States Federal Court House in Camden, New Jersey. He retired once again in February 2008.
In July 1994, Vince spotted from across the room a striking, ‘green-eyed’ fox by the name of June. He said to his buddy Bruce, “I am going to marry her!”, and that he did. They were joined in holy matrimony on September 15, 1995. Vince and June spent their time together going to the movies, hosting get togethers with family and friends and traveling. Some of the places they visited included Hawaii, Punta Cana along with a few Caribbean cruises. They really looked forward to their annual vacation to Aruba, where they have been going since July 1999.
Vince had three activities which he enjoyed. He loved cooking blue claw crabs for their many friends. The way that he took the backs off the crabs and sautéed them was such a “hit” that he made converts out of many of his friends who otherwise would not bother to eat crabs, saying “it was too much work”. He looked forward to riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with the New Jersey Buffalo Soldiers Motorcycle Club. All the Motorcycle Club members had riding names; and Vince’s riding name was “Slaughter”. His other love was spending time deep sea fishing with his many fishing buddies. He even experienced deep sea fishing during his annual vacation to Aruba. Although he wasn’t able to cook and enjoy the fish that he caught, he wanted to be able to brag that he went fishing in the Caribbean.
Vince was invited to Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church and Cathedral by his friends, Bobby and Sheena Harris. He loved the Lord and really felt at home there. He re-committed his life to Christ and joined the church in 2015.
For the past eight years, Vince’s health was challenged due to injuries sustained during his years in the Camden Police Department. June recognized that Vince was in need of more constant care prompting her to retire from her job to be by his side. Although he was in chronic pain on a daily basis, he continued to push forward every day. In talking to his friends, they all agreed that even though Vince didn’t always feel well, he was always upbeat, especially when he was on the phone with his buddy Richard. She always knew when he was talking to Richard by the constant laughter.
He leaves behind to cherish his memories, his loving wife, June, his mother, Roberta, son, Troy (Krista), daughters, Tracy Goodson and DeShanna Vaughters (Jonathan) and stepdaughter Adrienne Woodbury, brother, Gary, sister, Donna Sizer (Ralph), sister-in-law Valerie Kinsey (Myron), he was predeceased by his sister Jacqueline, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church family.
Vince you did your best, now get your rest.
